Obituaries 6A Tuesday October 10 1995 TR Gannett Suburban Newspapers Carmine DeGrande: former Tarrytown resident Carmine DeGrande a former longtime resident of Tarrytown died riday at his home in Largo la He was 89 He was bom Nov 18 1905 to Josegh and Jennie Licitra De Glahde in Sicily Italy He immigrat ed to the United States in 1910 and settled in Tarrytown On eb 23 1931 he married Mildred Minardi in Ragusa Italy Mr DeGrande lived in Tarrytown frpnv 1910 to 1971 before moving to Largo He worked at General Motors Corp in North Tarrytown for 30 years in the Materials Department He retired in 1966 He was a member of St Jerome Catholic Church in Largo In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters Jennie Dennehy of Largo and Lydia Down ey of Brownsburg Ind four grand children and two great grandsons Moss easter uneral Home Se renity Gardens Chapel in Largo is handling the arrangements Grace Beckerman: high school teacher Anthony Vietri: retired building supervisor Grace Beckerman a long time resident of Scarsdale died riday at Duke University Hos pital in Durham NC She was 87 Mrs Beckerman was born Oct 12 1907 to Albert and Blanche Brady in Albany where she was raised and educated She re ceived her degree from the State University of New York at Albany On April 23 1934 she married Luke Beckerman in New York City He died in 1986 She lived in Scarsdale from 1934 on and taught at Scarsdale High School where her husband also was a teacher Survivors include a daughter Margaret Dardess of Chapel Hill NC and a grandson riends and family are making contributions to the American Cancer Society 3500 Westgate Dr Suite 201 Durham NC 27707 Cremation Society of the Caroli nas Inc in Durham is handling arrangements Anthony Vietri a 28 year Hartsdale resident died yester day at White Plains Hospital Center He was 67 He was born April 9 1928 in Manhattan to John and Maria Benfatto Vietri He attended Stuyvesant High School in Man hattan Mr Vietri worked as building supervisor for Ben Acocella Landscaping in Eastchester be fore retiring several years ago He married Phyliss Rittoff on Sept 1 1966 in Yonkers He was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Yonkers and the National Guard Army Peter Skalaski: retired shop owner Reserve In addition to his wife of Hartsdale Mr Vietri is survived by two sons Lewis Gutterman of Hartsdale and Robert Greenburgh over the weekend and in two cases teen agers rid ing bicycles were identified as suspects police said 'Tjje burglaries were in differ ent neighborhoods which means thej may not be connected Lt Joseph DeCarlo said (5ur homes and one business werg burglarized between riday arid'Sunday AUer a burglary about noon riday on Stratford Avenue po lice Officers chased a suspect on a frige 10 speed bicycle onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 287police said The suspect left the bicycle and fled eluding a police chase Qn Saturday afternoon a Bar Road resident saw a young man crawling out of a kicked out door panel in his basem*nt hold ing gray duffel bag and chased the Irurglar for several blocks toward Edgemont Road saw the burglar join several other teen agers on bicy clesjiear a foot bridge to the village of Scarsdale police said Police said the home was bro keninto between 11:30 am and Saturday Tn other burglaries on Satur day the Bagel Oven at 401 Tar rytdivn Road was broken into between riday night and 3:45 am a home on Jane Street was burglarized between noon and and burglars struck a rooming house on lorence Ave nue between 11 pm Saturday and4 pm Sunday police said Schools get 1 0OG grant to learn computer skills Some 32 educators will learn advanced computer skills and how to use the Internet from the Westchester Education Coalition thanks to a $100000 grant from the NYNEX oundation The three year program aims to give 45 hours of computer training to one teacher and one librarian from each of 16 public school districts The training which will be done in two ses sions will begin in January 1996 The educators would be expect ed to train other classroom teachers said Shirley Mow the executive direct or The coalition includes mem bers of local businesses govern ments teachers school boards and community organizations and it works with 55 local school districts Selection for the program will be competitive The Coalition will select the participants in July ultimate goal is for class room teachers to be using the Internet in the Mow said in school libraries the media person is usually the one who helps the A study of 55 Westchester and Putnam school at tended schools Mr Skalaski served as a petty officer second class in the Navy during World War II He married Margaret Oswald Serrecchia in White Plains in 1955 Mr Skalaski was the owner of Crestwood Bake Shop in Tucka hoe for 37 years He sold the bakery and retired in 1980 He enjoyed cooking and bak ing Mr Skalaski was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe In addition to his wife of East chester he is survived by a son Gerald of White Plains two step sons Rocco Serrecchia of Eastchester and John Serrec chia of West Nyack a sister Anne Tuleya of Cranford NJ After the war he received a degree at Montclair State College in Upper Mont clair NJ and advanced gradu ate degrees at Columbia Univer sity and the State University of New York at Albany Mr Keir married Anita Ryall on June 18 1949 in Ne wark NJ He was a teacher and admin istrator in Keene Valley NY Scotia NY and Bennington Vt He was principal of Croton Harmon High School from 1972 until his retirement in August 1988 After that he was an ad junct professor at Pace Univer He lived in Mahopac for 22 years moving to Peekskill in 1994 He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa fraternity the Na tional Association of Secondary School Principals the New York Retired Teachers Association and the US Submarine Veter ans of World War II In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Charles of New York City where she was raised and educated On Oct 12 1930 she and Er nest Maloney were married in New York City Before moving to Pleasantville Mrs Maloney lived in the Bronx for 50 years Beatriz Medeiros: homemaker Beatriz Medeiros of White Plains a native of Mexico died yesterday at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla She was 67 Mrs Medeiros lived in White Plains for 22 years Before that she lived in Yonkers She was a home maker She was bom Nov 23 1927 in Guadalajara Mexico to Virginio and Beatriz Cardenas Mrs Medei ro was raised and educated in Mexico She married Valentim
