4 TR Gannett Westchester Newspapersriday August 2 1985 A Section Man found stabbed to death A Mount Vernon man who had not been seen for a week was found stabbed to death in his apartment Thursday police said Polly Carter the wife of the superintendent of the building at 160 4th St called police at 1:56 pm to report a strong odor coming from the apartment of Delane Mc Laughlin 33 The superintendent led police through the apartment to a locked bathroom door which Mount Ver non firefighters forced open police said Inside they found McLaugh lin's partially decomposed body ly ing face down under a blood soaked bathroom rug He had been stabbed repeatedly in the chest back and side Police said McLaughlin an em ployee of Iona College in New Ro chelle was last seen at 6:30 pm on July 25 by his mother who was not identified Police said they have no sus pects Bob McMahon Mfr' RONT END DAMAGE A 28 year old lorida man was slightly injured Thursday when the front end of his car was run over by a tractor trailer on air Street in Carmel the Putnam County Department said Police said Thomas Leonard of Marco Island la was heading west on air Street near Carmel High School at about 1:35 pm when he rounded a sharp curve in the wrong lane and was struck by the truck driven by John alloon 46 of Cold Spring Leonard who suffered cuts and bruises was treated at Putnam Hospital Center and Columbia College Besides having been the first female intern at lower ifth Ave nue Hospital in New York she was variously a professor of pediatrics at the New York University College of Medicine a meatpacking fortune and well known doctor died Wednesday of a heart attack while yachting with her sons off Kodiak Alaska She was 87 Mrs Bakwin who built her New Castle home in 1930 also main tained a residence in New York City before moving to Westchester Coun ty last year She became interna tionally known as a collector of impressionist art after buying works by Cezanne Renoir and van Gogh in Paris in the 1920s She directed pediatrics at the New York Infirmary for Women and Children now combined with Beekman Downtown Hospital from the 1940s until 1979 was one of the hardest working women
