that someone took 25 from a purse at the Christ Church Day Care Center West Elizabeth Street Police said they are looking for a suspect who reportedly had inquired about registering a child I at the center At 3 pm police got a report that a purse containing a wallet with 25 credit cards 1 and a checkbook was missing from her office at Digital Equipment Corp 200 White Plains Road The wallet was later found empty at the Galleria Mall in White Plains police said 1 Suspended license Tarrytown police arrested two motorists Tues day and charged each with driving with a sus pended license Richard Milby 42 of Staatsburg NY was arrested at 3:24 pm He was also charged with other vehicle and traffic violations police said Paris Pickett 37 of 30 Clinton St North Tarrytown was arrested at 8:25 pm Both men were released after posting $130 bail 4 and are due in court Jan 11 Man pleads guilty to heist escape Edward Lee Brims pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbery of a Rockland County bank last May 31 and to escaping Nov 27 from the County Jail where he was being held on the robbery charges County Court Judge Robert Meehan said he would sentence Brims 26 to nine to 18 years in state prison A sentence of 3 to seven years Meehan said would be imposed on the guilty plea to escape in the first degree The terms will run concurrently Meehan said Sentencing was scheduled for eb 14 Brims of 601 142nd St Manhattan was Acting city manager in Yonkers fires assistant By Brian Tumulty Staff Writer John Zakian the assistant to the city manager at Yonkers City Hall for the past two years was fired from his 839545 a yeai' job Tuesday evening after he refused to accept an order from acting City Manager Nicholas DeSantis to take an extended vacation Sources said the 33 vear old Zakian who served as the assistant to Republican Mayor Angelo Martinelli from 1974 to 1979 and helped coordinate his political campaigns was considered by the new Democratic majority on the City Council as a potential roadblock in its attempt to exert authority The new City Council took office Sunday Martinel li is continuing as mayor Zakian said he refused to take vacation time because it would be used up by ebruary and he could then be fired without severance benefits felt it would be ludicrous to do Zakian said DeSantis said he originally intended to let the new city manager who is expected to be appointed some Contract will cost Yonkers Already faced with a budget deficit for this fiscal year the Yonkers City Council will have to find an extra 31 million next year to pay for a one year contract for its public works and parks employees The pact with Teamsters Local 456 representing 415 public works and parks bureau employees will only cost the city 1 1323 this year time in ebruary make the final decision about status "John felt it was a prolonging of the said said if that's the way he feels he will be terminated" Assistant City Manager Theodore Garofalo 33 accepted a similar request from DeSantis to take an extended vacation Garofalo said Tuesday be has about 86 accumulated vacation days Zakian accumu lated 30 vacation days Garofalo who served as acting city manager when the Republican administration took office two years ago said he understood the reason for being sent on vacation (DeSantis) just wants to establish him self as the acting city said Garofalo my opinion
