longtime Rye resident and hospital volun teer died riday at her home She was 83 Mrs Laughlin was born Sept 15 1911 in St Louis to Claude and Della Swett Melville She was raised and educated in St Louis and graduated cum laude from Stephens Junior College in Columbia Mo She graduated from Washington University in St Louis where she was a mem ber of Phi Beta Kappa She married Newton Laughlin in 1944 in St Louis The couple lived in Scarsdale from 1946 until 1968 when they moved to Rye Her husband died in 1989 Mrs Laughlin was a member and past president of the 10th Twig at United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester She was an active volunteer at the antique shop She was a home maker She was a former member of the Rye Garden Club Manursing Island Club and American Yacht Club both in Rye and the Scars dale Golf Club Mrs Laughlin was a member of Rye Presbyterian Church Mrs Laughlin is survived by a daughter Karen Laughlin of Se attle two sons Robert of New York City and Philip of of Germany and longtime Pelham Manor resident died Sunday at his home He was 89 He was born eb 23 1906 to ranz and Elizabeth Hemmer Louis of Neudorf Germany He relocated to the United States in 1923 and lived in New Rochelle for about 10 years He lived the rest of his life in Pelham Manor As a sergeant in the US Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 he was stationed in Eng land and northern rance He married Wilma Rieder on Nov 19 1958 in Germany Mr Louis was the proprietor of Delicatessen in Pelham for 25 years retiring in 1970 He was a member of the New Rochelle Meanner and Damen Chor a singing society in New Rochelle the Steuben Society in White Plains the NY Turnve rein a gymnastics group in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx and Post 50 of the Ameri can Legion in Pelham He attended St Church in Pelham amily and friends are making donations to New Rochelle Hos pital Home Care Department New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center 16 Guion New Rochelle NY 10801 or St Church 25 was 75 Until his retirement in the late 1970s Mr Seidel was a delivery truck driver for the Rheingold Beer Brewery in White Plains He worked for the company for more than 30 years He was born Dec 22 1919 in Germany to Kurt and Herta Nichen Seidel In 1932 he and his family moved to the United States During World War II Mr Sei del a sergeant with the Army Signal Corps was decorated with the Bronze Star The medal is given for heroic or meritorious service in combat He served in Okinawa Saipan and Guadalca nal among other locations in the Pacific On Jan 11 1942 he and Lena Consola were married in the Bronx A former Bronx resident Mr Seidel moved to Mahopac 18 years ago He was a parishioner of St John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac In addition to his mother of Colorado Springs Colo and his wife Mr Seidel is survived by two daughters Doreen Molloy of Carmel and Kristine Cuomo of Mahopac a sister Liane Bet tinger of Colorado Springs five grandchildren and two great grandchildren Cargain Rituno Jr a longtime New Rochelle resident died Sunday of cancer at New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center He was 59 He was bom Jan 13 1936 in New Rochelle to George and Rose Moccio Rituno He lived in Mamaro neck for 28 years and graduated from Mamaroneck High School Mr Rituno served in the Army from 1956 to 1958 ber of irst Presbyterian Church She also was a member of Leewood Golf Club in Eastches ter Mrs Gorra is survived by two sons Robert Gorra of Randolph NJ and erris Gorra of Wash ington Conn a daughter Carole Gennarelli of Rye and six grand children Her husband died earlier Graham uneral by a brother Dan iel of New Rochelle The Lloyd Maxey Sons Beau champ Chapel in New Rochelle is handling the arrangements Sylvia Pavelle a former teacher and sales associate and a longtime White Plains resi dent died Monday at White Plains Hospital Center She was 80 She was born March 26 1914 in New York City to Herman and Lena Wise She attended New York City schools and re ceived a degree from Hunter College in 1935 On March 21 1937 she mar ried Si Pavelle in New York City They moved to White Plains in 1950 Mrs Pavelle was a member for life of the White Plains chap ter of Hadassah and a former member of the Jewish Commu nity Center of White Plains She was also a member of the League of Women Voters of White Plains Mrs Pavelle was a substitute teacher at Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck from 1965 to 1975 She then was a George Rituno Jr: New Rochelle resident Prison proposed for Yonkers By Sean Webby Staff Writer A developer from California is proposing to establish a federal detention center in downtown Yonkers to house criminals Stephen Lee 42 of Van Nuys plans to locate the facility in a leased warehouse at 157 Walsh Road If approved the warehouse would be renovated into a four story center complete with bedrooms dining room and kitchen and it could open later this year he said The developer has requested an April meeting before the Zoning Board of Appeals The center would house up to 60 felons all convicted of nonviolentcrimes and serving the last por tions of their prison sentences Lee said yesterday He described a typical resi dent: medical doctor who got a little carried away with Medi care Lee said sen PUBUC SAETY tenced to eight months and has 30 days to go He gets a job as a local administrator at a hospital and spends his nights at the All the prisoners would be tested for drug use and would be required to get full time jobs The center would have no fence or barred windows Lee said Only a 5 inch wide white line running around the center would identify it as a center housing felons Run by a profes sional administrator the deten tion center would hire about 16 staff members Lee said will be like one of those country club said Ge rald Loehr attorney in Yonkers Lee who owns 30 apartment buildings in southern California won a government contract to build and run the center in southern Westchester County for the US Justice Department Lee said he picked Yonkers because the people in Yon kers are more open minded and can see the social benefits of something like City Councilman ernando uentes said Yonkers residents would have different reactions: fear and anger say it will only be collar Well no thank uentes said arguing that he was speak ing for many concerned senior citizens who live in several apart and Nicole Brown 26 of 2640 Marion Ave the Bronx were both charged with second degree harassment a misdemeanor and released without bail No report on the accident was filed police said Brown and Hobbs
